Dear Students,
This week, we will delve into the concept of Viññāṇakkhandha (Consciousness), exploring its key characteristics and implications for our understanding of the mind. We will discuss the six types of consciousness that arise through our sense doors: Cakkhu-viññāṇa (eye), Sota-viññāṇa (ear), Ghāna-viññāṇa (nose), Jivhā-viññāṇa (tongue), Kāya-viññāṇa (body), and Mano-viññāṇa (mind).
Please review the teachings from the Anattalakkhaṇa Sutta on the aggregates being impermanent (anicca), unsatisfactory (dukkha), and non-self (anattā). Understanding these concepts is vital for our upcoming discussions and will enrich your insights into the nature of consciousness.
Remember to bring your notes and be prepared to share your reflections in class!
Best,\
